Jina Pierce Leaves

Jina Pierce has officially left her job as curator of fine art at Pueblo's Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. Pierce had been on a leave of absence since mid-June.

Pierce had a genius for imaginative programming that challenged audiences without ever losing sight of the center's public mission. Exhibit themes ranged from the science-fiction-based "Zero Gravity," to the astonishing "Magical Realism: A New Generation," to an exhibit rooted in the culture of low riders.

She will be sorely missed in the arts scene — arguably more so than De Marsche, because Pierce had not alienated nearly as many people.

Pierce is in, I think, Los Angeles. Here's wishing her luck.

Now if Maggie Divelbiss would only release her stranglehold on the Arts Center, which is more concerned with putting on weddings than it is supporting any local theatrical productions....sure, she'll bring in outside events, but she won't support local because she claims that there's nothing of quality local. It's sad when an "arts center" refuses to support it's own local art.

Well that's a pity. Jina invited us (www.braid.com) to fill a gallery at last year's "Zero Gravity" exhibition. An arts center should embrace its community which was something she was keen on and a big part of SCAC's success.

Really sorry to see Jina go. She was a breath of fresh air, in what can be the stifling atmosphere of local art.

If only you people knew what a horrible manipulative, lying, stealing vindictive, people-using person jina was, you would be hosting a celebration rather than ignorantly posting how "great" she was. Open your eyes! She was not a good curator, she was just a good manipulator. What a pathetic waste of life, we should all be so happy to never see her again.

oh yeah, and she was is master alienator, you just don't know the people because they aren't rich or "important" to you. she only alienated those without power, which is pretty damn pathetic.

I guess I'm ignorant because all I know is that the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts had really interesting exhibits when Jina was curator, and really boring ones afterwards, while the Sangre de Cristo exhibits suddenly got more interesting after she became curator there.

It's an odd thing about people. They can be very good at what they do even if you don't like them.

I just deleted a comment, which I've never done before. Please try and keep things reasonably civil and non-libelous.

(Even if you're an angry ex-husband.)

Ron stay on top of your blogs because once I let the people who have know Jina over the past 20 years know there is a blog page your gonna have your hands full deleating all the horrible things people will say about the way Ms Pierce treated them. It's not your job to take job to take sides or judge individuals until you have heard both sides of the story. Or should I say both sides of Jinas face.

You are ignorant Mark if you couldn't see through the facade Jina put forward. I just read your blog regarding deleting a comment, what gives you the right? Angry husband or not is that not censorship? Who are you to decide which comments are deleted and those which are not? Blog God? I'm sure the x-husbands comments where probably angry but who would know Ms Pierce better than her x-spouse? Let freedom of speach and the truth be read no matter how much the truth may hurt the subject of the blog.

If you read through the comments the negatives out number the positives. I think that speaks in volumes the manor in which Jina did her job and was perceived by the community. By the way she had no formal training except her rain of terror she perpetrated on the Tri-Lakes area. No degree in art and wasn't even qualified to do the job.

Jina Pierce was in no way in any shape or form qualified to be curator of the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. It was a blessing she left. She was not a friend to the Arts Center, but she was a very good manipulator and pulled the wool over Maggie Divelbiss's eyes, which leads me into why is Divelbiss still in charge? Near 80 and slowly losing her mind. A number of employees left in a three month period. Why? Because the Arts Center is being run by a dictator who does not have the arts center's best interest at heart, only to be in control of her little kingdom and treat her employees like servants and manipulate the board into thinking she is of sound mind. Its sad that the board of trustees lets that happen. But that's Pueblo for you. Good ol' boy network. Everyone pat's each other's ass even if it's corrupt

Mike Pierce

I have known both of you for 20 years, and I know others who have as well.
Find a more constrictive way to deal with personal frustrations, and start contributing rather than creating negativity.

Jina is the most qualified person there is for this type of work, and is an amazing hard working individual. She will keep doing good work whether you want her too or not.

post script
I should not even dignify the comment made about her children, because it is completely irrelevant to the subject but I feel the need, and I know better than anyone possibly could how much a load that is.

Also...
posting a bunch of anonymous comments pretending to be other people is not the most ideal way to get your point across.

I Michael Pierce pulled up this web sit over the holidays 08, for the "first time" to see if I could locate Ms Pierce for other reasons than art or her leaving her job. For some reason my name, which is by the way Michael, not Mike, x-husband, "Mike Pierce," is all over it. Someone please let me know how I was envolved in any of these blogs or anything else regarding Ms Pierce leaving. I know nothing of arts except music and little about what Jina did or didn't do while she worked in Pueblo as I was in CA most of those years. I know nothing of UCLA or any alination, or munipulation. I don't know Maggie or anyone else at the art center. I do know that Ms Pierce's degree is in bi-lingual education, spanish. Maybe a BA in bi-lingual ed qualifies you, I have no idea nor do I have any motivation, or intention of finding out.I DON'T CARE! Jina also has extensive experience in working in the Arts at the Tri Lakes Center For the Arts in Palmer Lake. She turned what was a abandoned auto repair shop, Kizer Fraiser building, turned it into an Art Center got funding, and was the Administrator for a year or two. One would think that qualifies her, but that is not my business or concern. It is for all of you who bicker and blog about silly office politics.

So for all of you who have a beef with Jina please don't try to hide behind facade of an angry x-husband or one "Mike Pierce" I know nothing of your little inter office gossip or backstabbing that is apparently going on. That goes for you too Ron whoever your little effemite blame stuff on the big bad X-Husband ass is.

I do know My X-Wife was a good mother and wife for a long time. So If you have something negative to say about her don't be a blog coward come and say it to my face, I'm right here in Pueblo! Be careful what you open your fat traps about as Jina was my wife for 10 years, don't be shy either I'm a gentle 6'1' 215 lbs.
